The main aim of Gael Linn is to foster and promote the Irish language and its heritage throughout Ireland in the areas of policy and community, as a living language and as a source of identity. Gael Linn’s action program includes three main areas; the educational field, activities to support the use of Irish and the business aspect of the organisation.
Gael Linn is one of the six organizations recognized by Foras na Gaeilge in the voluntary sector. In that context, the main areas of work are: Education in the English Language Sector and for Adults, and Opportunities for School Students.
The Gaelbratach scheme, which is under the auspices of Gael Linn, offers natural opportunities for students in primary and secondary schools of all kinds throughout the country to speak Irish outside the classroom, whether in schools where there is a need to reinvigorate the language, to Gaelcoileanna and Gaeltacht schools.
